We were asked to produce these coasters as escort coasters for a wedding.
There are many ways to cut logs into rings, but this time we used a chainsaw to cut the logs into rings. The amount of time required for later processes depends on how parallel the slices can be made here, so we carefully cut the logs into rounds.
Once the ring-cutting is complete, the polishing process begins.
Using a tabletop belt sander, first remove scratches on the front and back surfaces of the ring-cut with a #40 belt and perform rough polishing to prepare the bark.
Next, we change to a #120 belt for chamfering and finish polishing.
Careful polishing work gives a very good finish.
After this, the wood is dried by underwater drying.
The underwater drying and drying period will vary depending on the species of wood, diameter and thickness of the coaster.
This time, the client requested us to make the most of the whiteness of the cypress, so we delivered it in its solid state without oil finishing.
The couple will use a soldering iron to put their names on it and use it for their wedding. We were very happy to be able to be a part of their first joint work.
